On the occasion of Black History Month, Microcrédit Montréal organized an evening under the banner of celebration and solidarity. The event is part of a series of initiatives carried out by the organization throughout the year, but this month the focus was placed on highlighting Afro-descendant communities and their essential contribution to Quebec’s cultural and economic wealth.

“Tonight was above all about celebrating the beauty of Montreal’s diversity,” explained Aurélie, a member of the organizing team. “We are happy to have been able to bring together inspiring people and to see this collective strength at work.” She emphasized that beyond the symbolism, the goal is to move toward a society where recognition of the place of Afro-descendants will be naturally ingrained in the hearts of Quebecers.

Microcrédit Montréal’s mission is to support entrepreneurs who wish to start or grow their projects but face financial barriers. Thanks to tailored financing solutions, the organization makes it possible to access loans ranging from $500 to $20,000. These may take the form of pre-startup microloans of up to $5,000 to test a market, or larger financing requiring a business plan and an in-depth knowledge of the sector.

But the support offered goes beyond financial aid. Entrepreneurs are paired with professional volunteers, guided toward training opportunities, networking, and even marketing assistance. “Our role is to provide that necessary boost to help take the next step and allow each project to reach its full potential,” Aurélie added.

For over thirty years, Microcrédit Montréal has been committed to breaking down barriers and providing entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds—and particularly those from Black communities—with the means to realize their ambitions. This year, the organization strengthened its structures in order to reach more people and to ensure they are welcomed with the warmth and openness that have characterized Microcrédit Montréal for three decades.

“We are happy to be able to support the Black community in their entrepreneurial, professional, and life projects,” concluded Aurélie, highlighting Microcrédit Montréal’s ongoing commitment to expanding its impact.
