Writer and screenwriter, Kougaroca Soroma Yamoussou Haché Sankofa Merrymana, presents the premiere of his very first script: a unique work that he prefers to describe as a “cosmic narrative” rather than a film.
The idea emerged during the pandemic. Confined to his room, the author recounts how he envisioned a story, characters, costumes, and even the artistic team that could accompany him. “I have always wanted to write. During Covid, inspiration came to me and I began researching screenwriting. Little by little, I materialized the idea into a script,” he explains.
This narrative follows a soul in search of reincarnation, guided by a cosmic entity. “It is a symbolic work, deeply inspired by African and Kamite Black traditions. It unfolds like poetry, an interweaving of symbols and messages that complement each other,” the screenwriter clarifies.
Kougaroca Soroma took on the artistic direction, co-direction, and co-production of his project. “I love aesthetics, attention to detail, and wonder. My personal standards pushed me to rise to my own expectations. The team, moreover, went beyond everything I had imagined,” he confides.
Among the main difficulties encountered, he cites the patience and perseverance required to carry out a long-term project. “The greatest challenge was to maintain consistency, to see it through to the end, despite unforeseen circumstances.”
The project was initially supposed to be supported by an institution, but the contractual conditions were not deemed fair by the author. “As the saying goes, the hand that gives is the one that commands. I therefore preferred to invest myself, with the support of a co-producer. This allowed us to keep our independence and to pay everyone fairly and on time.”
For Kougaroca Soroma, this “cosmic narrative” has a clear purpose: “I want viewers to be edified. The cosmos is an ordered universe that deeply inspires me. Each character reflects a facet of humanity, and each symbol conveys a teaching. It is an aesthetic and spiritual work that aims to touch people profoundly.”
The project will first be presented at festivals before being released online. “It will take about a year before it becomes accessible to the general public. For now, there is only this exclusive premiere. Afterwards, official posters and announcements on my social media will allow the public to follow its progress.”
In conclusion, the author addresses a message to his audience: “First, connect with yourself, with your ancestry. Honor your parents, your heritage, and the inner cosmos that lives within you. That is how my work can fully resonate within you.”
Kougaroca Soroma is active on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, where he shares updates about his project and his artistic inspirations.
