In the aftermath of a tough loss, George Campbell addressed the media to reflect on what went wrong for his side and how the team can regroup moving forward.
“First of all, credit to them for a fantastic goal,” George Campbell said when asked about the night’s defining moments. “But beyond that, we gave the ball away far too much. We were chasing the game, not only because we were behind, but because we kept handing possession back to them. That forced us into constant recovery runs instead of dictating play.”
Playing on the right side of defense, George was also asked about adapting his game to different roles.
“I’ve said before that I try to be comfortable in any position on the pitch,” he explained. “Obviously, I’m right-footed, so at times when the ball comes across from the outside, I feel confident breaking lines with passes or tracking back against wingers. It’s about making sure I can give the team balance wherever I’m needed.”
Mistakes at the back proved costly, leading to an uphill battle after conceding the opening goal. Despite that, George emphasized trust in his teammates.
“Positive energy is everything. Nobody wants to make mistakes, no matter the level,” he said. “Of course, we wish we could avoid those moments, but we trust each other—defenders, midfielders, and forwards alike. We’ll keep trying to play out from the back and connect through midfield to create chances. The belief in each other is still strong.”
George also reflected on his role as a substitute in what was intended to be an attacking adjustment late in the match.
“No matter the situation, you have to be ready on the bench,” he noted. “Whether it’s defensive or offensive, my job is to give my best when I come on. I’m not the one making the tactical calls, but I’ll always be prepared to contribute however I can.”
Despite the defeat, George highlighted the importance of maintaining the right mentality moving forward.
“There was a moment where we showed extra energy and created more chances,” he said.
“That’s the mindset we need to carry with us. It’s a starting point, and something to build on.”
