Denis Trudel, Member of Parliament for Longueuil–Saint-Hubert, took part with energy and warmth in the National Holiday celebrated on Saint-Charles Street. Thousands of citizens gathered to share a moment of emotion, music, and pride, illustrating just how much this day—June 23—remains a pillar of Quebec’s identity.
Surrounded by a joyful and festive crowd, the MP greeted passersby while recalling the deeper meaning of this celebration. “This is the National Holiday of all Quebecers,” he said, observing the diversity and human warmth filling the street. “People come from everywhere, and tonight, everyone is Québécois. In fact, everyone always is, but tonight, you can really feel it.”
For Denis Trudel, the National Holiday goes far beyond a simple popular gathering. It embodies a moment of recognition, remembrance, and sharing around the values that shape Quebec: the French language, solidarity, creativity, and the pride of belonging to a unique society in North America. “Tonight, we’re going to sing, dance, talk about the language, the country, about this magnificent, extraordinary, vast, and welcoming Quebec for all Quebecers,” he added with emotion.
On Saint-Charles Street, the main stage was preparing to host several local artists and special guests, offering a rich and diverse musical program. Families gathered along the sidewalks, young people arrived in groups, and older residents, nostalgic for past celebrations, created a lively portrait of Quebec society in all its diversity. Blue and white flags waved in the air, accompanied by smiles, songs, and applause.
The National Holiday, beyond its festive spirit, remains a powerful symbol of unity. In a constantly changing world, this day reminds Quebecers of the importance of coming together around what they share: a language, a culture, and a common history. In Longueuil and elsewhere, it reaffirms that Quebec continues to define itself through openness, freedom, and the desire to build a stronger, shared future.
Before continuing his tour through the celebrations, Denis Trudel delivered a message filled with pride and gratitude: “Happy National Holiday to all the people of Longueuil and to all Quebecers. Let’s be proud of who we are and continue to celebrate this magnificent, united, and vibrant Quebec!”
