Montreal – In a festive and warm atmosphere, Burundian comedian Alfred Mugenzi took part in an event produced by Al Wal, recently presented in Montreal. Performing in Canada for the first time as part of his tour, the artist shared his impressions with emotion and gratitude.

“It was a very successful event. For me, it’s an honor to attend a show by a great African comedian I have admired for a long time. I’ve already been in this profession for almost 12 years, and seeing an elder like him on stage deeply inspires me,” Mugenzi said after the performance.

Originally from Burundi, Alfred Mugenzi has, for several years, established himself as one of the most promising comedians of his generation. After performing on stages in Europe — from Sweden to France to Belgium — he is now discovering Canadian audiences. An experience he describes as remarkable:

“Canadians are very polite. When you ask for something, even from a passerby, they answer kindly. I really appreciated the welcome from the Montreal audience and the solidarity of the African community here.”

Although he admitted to having struggled with the cold during his first performance in Edmonton, he now says he has “adapted” and is happy with the welcome he received in Quebec. “Montreal is a dynamic city. People work hard, but they also find time to support artists. I felt a real connection with the audience,” he added.

For Alfred Mugenzi, Canada is often seen as a “promised land.” But the comedian reminds us that any country can reach such heights if it commits to progress:

“I believe that if we have good leaders and if everyone makes an effort, any nation can become a promised land like Canada.”

Currently on tour, Mugenzi plans to return soon to Burundi to continue his artistic projects and contribute to the cultural development of his country. However, he does not rule out a future return to Canadian soil — perhaps next time with his family.

“Home will always be home. I will return, but I will keep Montreal and Canada in my heart,” he concluded.
