SOKAFEST 2023 Review: A Triumph of Haiti-Rwanda Cultural Exchanges and the Splendor of Football

The inaugural edition of SOKAFEST, the largest soccer festival in Montreal, was a true success, captivating participants with a blend of cultural exchange and lively soccer matches. Organized by the non-profit FESTIBEC AFRO-BLACK WEB TV, the event provided a platform for sports activities and entertainment while fostering unity among diverse communities.

Despite the victory of the Haitian team, the focus was placed on shared moments of joy. The coach of the Haitian team, Ben Toussaint, and the representative Stanley, emphasized the importance of this cultural experience. The event revealed similarities between Haitian and Rwandan cultures, particularly in dance and music, highlighting common bonds despite geographical distances.

The festival marked a historic moment with the first goal by Jonny, Haitian striker, celebrated with a reward of 100 CAD from NB Transport Solution. For the Rwandan community, SOKAFEST was an opportunity to showcase its soccer talents, despite the defeat against the Haitian team. Jackson Nzarubara, Rwandan captain, expressed his confidence for future matches.

With more than 200 participants both in person and online, the festival had a significant impact, and organizers are already preparing the second edition, scheduled indoors for August 2024. This new edition highlights the adaptability of the festival and its commitment to diversity.
