Driven by Festibec Afrobl Web TV, a non-profit organization led by Ninette Boucher, Socafest 2024 returns for its second edition with renewed ambition: to unite Afro-descendant communities and their allies through soccer, culture, and togetherness.
Scheduled for August 16 and 17, 2024, the event stands as the first Afro-descendant soccer festival in Montreal and Longueuil, serving as a vibrant showcase of cultural diversity and inclusion.
According to President Ninette Boucher, the festival is above all a moment of gathering where every generation and gender has its place:
“Women will play, and I’ll be on the field too. Children and men will participate as well. It’s a collective celebration where sport becomes a universal language of solidarity.”
Beyond the soccer matches, Socafest 2024 promises a festive and immersive experience. The program includes performances by local artists, dance showcases, fashion demonstrations, and a culinary journey through Afro-descendant flavors. Visitors will also be able to take part in workshops focused on entrepreneurship, culture, and community networking, encouraging interaction between diverse cultures and generations.
The festival places a strong emphasis on youth and women’s inclusion, two essential pillars of this edition. Here, sport is used as a tool for empowerment and social cohesion, while highlighting the creativity and vitality of Afro-descendant communities in Quebec and beyond.
In a message filled with enthusiasm, Ninette Boucher issued a public call to action:
“We want this event to be truly wow. We’re launching a crowdfunding campaign so everyone can contribute. Support, share, come play, dance, and celebrate with us.”
Through this initiative, Socafest 2024 goes far beyond being just a sports festival—it becomes a space for dialogue, expression, and intercultural celebration. It embodies the desire to unite communities around shared values: respect, diversity, equality, and cultural pride.
This second edition already promises to be one of the highlights of summer 2024, where sports, art, and culture will come together to create a vibrant, unifying event carrying a powerful message of unity.
Socafest 2024—more than a festival, it’s a celebration of the very best that diversity has to offer.
