SOKAFEST 2024 - 2nd Edition - Longueuil - 16-17/08/2024
The second edition of SOKAFEST took place successfully on August 16 and 17, 2024, in Longueuil and Montreal. The event brought together more than 300 participants both in person and online over two days and succeeded in creating strong bridges between Afro-descendant communities through sports, culture, and entrepreneurship.
On August 16, the conference on access to financing and grants brought together more than 50 participants, including young entrepreneurs and community representatives. Seven speakers from organizations such as CHAFRIC, STARTOP, BMO, EVOL, IRYD, MP Denis Trudel, and Groupe 3737 gave dynamic presentations on business creation, financing, and project development. A space for exchange in both French and English reinforced linguistic inclusion.
On August 17, the sports and cultural event brought together 4 communities: Rwanda, Togo, and Algeria at the Centre Multi-sports of Collège Français in Longueuil, and the DRC (Montreal) at Toussaint-Louverture Park. Friendly matches took place thanks to the collaboration of the Longueuil Soccer Club (CSL), which provided free access to the Longueuil field.
Personalities such as Mayor Catherine Fournier, MP Denis Trudel, and elected officials Reine Mbombo and Alvaro Cueto honored the event with their presence and actively engaged with the communities in attendance.
