The show Talent and Passion recently highlighted an innovative project that combines technology and art: REKR, an application designed as the “Uber for artists.” At the origin of this initiative is Martin, known by his artist name Hypes, an Afro musician who has been living in Canada for over thirteen years.

Confronted with the same challenges as many creators – finding a videographer, a dancer, a studio, or even a photographer – Hypes identified a gap in the market. “Usually, people go through Facebook or Instagram to look for contacts, but it takes time and doesn’t guarantee finding the right person,” he explains.

From this observation came REKR, a mobile application that directly connects artists, freelancers, and clients. The principle is simple: the user posts a project with a description, a date, and an approximate location to preserve confidentiality. Registered professionals – videographers, singers, dancers, DJs, or photographers – then receive a notification and can offer their services.

Although the idea emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic, its realization was long and arduous. Hypes recalls having entrusted the initial development to a team found on Fiverr. After two years of waiting and multiple delays, the product delivered was unusable.

It was ultimately a French developer, Luc Girot, who brought the project to life. “In three months, he did what others couldn’t achieve in two years,” emphasizes Hypes. After five years of perseverance, the application was officially launched in July 2025.

One of REKR’s strengths is its accessibility. “You can be an amateur or a professional, it doesn’t matter. The app is free and designed for everyone,” says Hypes. For now, it focuses on five main profiles – singers, videographers, photographers, DJs, and dancers – but other services such as makeup artists will soon be added.

A system of ratings and comments also ensures the quality of services and builds trust among users.

Faced with the rise of artificial intelligence, Hypes remains convinced that nothing will ever replace human emotion in artistic creation. “AI can make some things easier, but it will never replace artists,” he asserts. REKR’s ambition is therefore clear: to support the artistic community by showcasing talent and facilitating connections.

Alongside his role as an entrepreneur, Hypes continues his musical career. His tracks and music videos are available on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. “It’s true that with the app I produce a little less at the moment, but music remains at the heart of my identity,” he confides.
