The recent football match was an opportunity for the Ivorian community in Montreal and Ottawa to rally behind their national team. According to Sarah, an enthusiastic supporter, the match ended with a victorious score of two goals to zero.
“We’ll meet next Thursday for four drinks after the match. We are happy and enjoyed ourselves. Thanks to the players, we support you,” she said.
Ismaël Diand Messilo, for his part, expressed the general satisfaction following this victory: “After this success, we are all happy. It is an encouraging victory at the start of the competition, especially under the pressure exerted by the host team. The team did the work by taking the three points tonight, which is essential for a good start to the competition. All Ivorians are proud and confident for what’s next. Côte d’Ivoire is moving toward the final goal: going all the way and winning this CAN B.”
Marcel à Laab also highlighted the players’ performance: “The match was really good. The players were excellent, and we admired their performance. It was impressive. We are looking forward to the next match to continue supporting our team and aim for the three points, then the final.”
BL IG Jocelin, president of the organizing committee of B 2024 in Montreal, recalled the event’s objective: “Bata was organized by Groupe Event in association with the Ivorian Students Association of Ottawa. We wanted to promote Africa, African football, and Côte d’Ivoire. We are thrilled that it ended with a victory for our national team. Our players gave their all, and the diaspora showed exceptional support, with an attendance that even exceeded our capacities in Montreal and Ottawa.”
The event also transformed the Afromuseum into a true Ivorian village for the CAN. All matches will be broadcast on-site, allowing the community to fully experience the competition: “All CAN matches will be at the Afromuseum. It’s an appointment not to be missed,” concluded the organizing committee.
The victory of Côte d’Ivoire and the massive mobilization of its diaspora illustrate the importance of sport as a vector of cohesion and national pride, announcing a tournament rich in emotions and popular support.
