Montreal, QC — The Afro Museum in Montreal was filled with energy and optimism as the Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) officially launched its Innovation Hub in the city. This exciting event brought together entrepreneurs, community leaders, and supporters eager to celebrate the milestone and learn how the Chamber is supporting the growth and success of Black-owned businesses across Canada.
Among the voices of inspiration was Marian Llean, a distinguished community leader and recipient of the 2003 Woman of Distinction Award for Community Services in Canada. Representing Le Pasarel Global Bridges, an organization committed to empowering immigrant and Indigenous youth through performing arts programs in schools, Marian shared her journey and how the CBCC has contributed to her development as a leader.
"Before I say what I do, I want you to know that I'm a Woman of Distinction 2003 for Community Services in Canada," Marian began. “One of the places that helped me develop my leadership, management, and organizational skills is the Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce.”
Marian explained how she discovered CBCC while seeking funding and was introduced to the GrowthWheel — a powerful visual toolbox for decision-making in startup and growth companies.
“The GrowthWheel analyzes every aspect of business and shows you how to build a strong foundation, including governance, bylaws, business planning, financial literacy, credit management, and marketing using multimedia. It’s an incredibly comprehensive program,” she said.
While nonprofit organizations like hers benefit from the Chamber's ecosystem, she emphasized how entrepreneurs running for-profit businesses receive extensive mentoring, access to funding opportunities, and hands-on business development support.
“I want to encourage everyone to participate in the Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce programs,” she added. “It’s a space where businesses can thrive.”
The Montreal Innovation Hub marks one of five across the country and is part of the Chamber’s national strategy to uplift Black entrepreneurs by offering them access to knowledge, resources, and networks.
Speaking at the launch, a CBCC Program Director expressed enthusiasm for the warm reception in Montreal:
“It’s great being back in Montreal at the Afro Museum for the launch of the Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce Innovation Hub. The turnout was fantastic, and the excitement from the community is contagious. People were networking, exchanging contacts — they didn’t want to leave!”
He highlighted the Chamber’s commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship not just in Montreal but throughout Quebec:
“We want to make sure we’re inspiring and supporting entrepreneurs across the city and the province. Montreal is definitely one of our key cities, and with partners like Afro Museum, we’re building something powerful.”
