Montreal, Quebec — In an atmosphere filled with emotion, vibrant colors, and rhythmic beats, the 9th edition of the Festival Afrique Québec once again demonstrated its crucial role in promoting African culture in Canada. Through spontaneous testimonials, electrifying performances, and remarkable attendance, the festival established itself as a true hub of unity, diversity, and creativity.

The second edition of SOKAFEST took place successfully on August 16 and 17, 2024, in Longueuil and Montreal. The event brought together more than 300 participants both in person and online over two days and succeeded in creating strong bridges between Afro-descendant communities through sports, culture, and entrepreneurship.

At a recent event co-hosted by SBCCI and Groupe 3737, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and cultural figures gathered to reflect on the progress of Black-led funding initiatives while acknowledging the challenges that remain. The evening underscored the transformative role of organizations dedicated to equity, entrepreneurship, and cultural development.

During the SOKAFEST 2024 Conference on access to funding, the Vice President of Groupe 3737, Ed Vertus, addressed one of the most pressing issues facing Black-led organizations today—the uncertainty surrounding the future of funding. While the current federal mandate for financing is scheduled to end in March 2025, Vertus and other leaders insisted that the progress achieved in recent years cannot be allowed to fade.
